An American Samurai is running for mayor of Akron; his name is Bill Melver.
The ‘American Samurai’ title is one Melver gave himself, paying homage to his Japanese heritage. He is now third in the ring against Democrat Dan Horrigan, clerk of courts, and Republican Eddie Sipplen, a civil rights attorney, in the Nov. 3 election to succeed 28-year mayor Don Plusquellic.
