The most important debate for Akron’s mayoral seat in the coming general election on November 3 is sponsored by the Akron Press Club and co-sponsored by the local League of Women voters and scheduled for Tuesday, October 13.
Voters should question the legitimacy of this debate since it will not include all candidates who will appear on the November ballot. I was denied the right to participate. and I am the lone Independent candidate.
When I called the Press Club to inquire, I was told the board of trustees specifically made the decision to exclude any Independents.
It is indeed a sad day when so-called trusted and objective organizations lose their focus and now play a partisan role.
This now becomes a waste of time and does not fulfill the purpose of informing the public so it can make sound decisions and good choices.
Why would these organizations exclude a candidate from a candidates’ debate? Sounds like false advertising and the audience who must pay to witness this event will be short changed.
