Looking back over the events of this past week, it’s been a real challenge as to who to believe, let alone what to believe. While most of the health experts are saying we need to continue the “full court press” on the lock down, some political leaders are totally ignoring those cautions and relaxing on the lock down guidelines, even defying the president’s national guidelines. If you believe those often-repeated words, “We’re all in this together”, it comes down to each and every one of us to do our own, personal part, whatever the spirit compels you to do. When I see on national news cast a young mom-a nurse, leaving behind her family with two young children in care of her husband and go to a New York hospital to volunteer, it causes me to ponder if I’m doing my small part.
As you know, we support the Take Out Tuesdays and have encouraged others to participate – they’ve all been excellent – so far, we’ve tried the Cabbage Connection, Casa Del Rio Express, Larry’s Main Entrance and Trecaso’s (Mary Coyle). One suggestion I might share – instead of ordering the whole dinner, just order the entrée plus a side if you wish, then add your own salad, dinner rolls etc. For us, we prefer to upgrade the meals with our own extra touch. Other on the list are D’Agnese’s, Edgars, sushi from Hunan and Wolf Creek Tavern, assuming they’re all doing take out business. We were disappointed to discover, Chin’s our go to restaurant for Chinese is temporarily closed and are looking forward to when they open back up.
The extended Melver family has also decided to provide lunches for the National Guards at the Akron Canton Foodbank on their scheduled community distribution day. I’ve also read that only about half of Akron Public School students are actively continuing their on-line education sessions. This is quite alarming. Especially since, I would guess, students from the most impoverished families are the ones, not participating. These students are the ones needing this education the most but will continue to fall behind, every day they miss their school session.
So if you are reading this, please ask yourself, what can you do to make a difference – after all, “We’re all in this together”. Thanks for reading.
